About

A smiling woman with curly gray hair, gold hoop earrings, and layered gold necklaces, wearing a white top, against a gray background.

I’m Janet Hughes, the founder of Finances Simple Group. I started this work because I’ve lived through the discomfort, the silence, and the shame that so many of us carry when it comes to money. As a mother, a caregiver, a survivor, and a financial professional, I know how personal and complex our relationship with money can be. I also know that true financial change doesn’t start with spreadsheets, it starts with honesty, safety, and healing.

I created Finances Simple Group to offer a different kind of financial support, one that’s trauma-informed, heart-led, and grounded in strategy. With over 20 years of experience in finance and coaching, including time at the IRS and in nonprofit leadership, I combine practical tools with deep emotional insight. Whether I’m guiding someone through building business credit or helping them unpack a lifetime of money patterns, my goal is the same: to offer a space where transformation is possible and shame has no place.

My own journey began in South Central Los Angeles, where I learned early what it meant to carry responsibility and resilience. From caring for my siblings to navigating the financial realities of single motherhood, I’ve walked the road many of my clients are on. I know what it means to stretch every dollar, to question your worth, and to rewrite the money lessons handed down through generations. That’s why I bring not just knowledge, but compassion, context, and community.

Through Finances Simple Group, I work with women, entrepreneurs, and caregivers who are ready to approach money in a new way. We don’t pretend that money wounds disappear overnight. But we do honor your story, your pace, and your power to shift the cycle. I help clients move from financial fear to grounded decision-making, and I remind them that they are not alone in the process.

If you’ve been looking for a space to talk about money without judgment, to start untangling the past while building something new, you’ve found it. Welcome to Finances Simple Group. I’m so glad you’re here.

Financial healing starts at the root — not at the register.
